Legislative Action

AGC at all levels (local, state and national) is monitoring legislative activity on behalf of members, protecting and advancing the interests of the building industry. Members are kept abreast of all activities that can affect their businesses.

The Rio Grande Valley Chapter AGC:

  • Maintains continuing liaison with local government officials and regulatory agencies.
  • Has a voice in determining local regulations affecting codes, policies, ordinances, laws, contracts & documents, inspections, and fees & payments.
  • Works to insure all local entities follow competitive practices and monitors proposed conditions & practices to insure a healthy construction climate.

  • The Texas Building Branch AGC, Austin, TX
  • Has a full-time staff of professional government relations people.
  • Maintains constant contact with all state agencies affecting the construction industry.
  • Informs all agencies of the contractor’s position on proposed rules and regulations.
  • Works to insure all public agencies follow competitive practices in awarding contracts.
  • Reviews all bills introduced each session of the state legislature – supports or opposes.
  • Educates members on legislation and candidates’ positions.
  • AGC of America, Alexandria, VA:
  • Represents all members’ interests before the United States Senate and Congress.
  • Maintains active contact with all federal agencies that award construction contracts.
  • Monitors the bidding practices of all federal agencies to insure fairness.
  • Creates education & public relations programs in the interest of the industry.
  • Files briefs on behalf of members and the industry for landmark cases
